Businesses in the environmental and land-based sector enhance the quality of life for every person in the UK. They improve well-being, supply quality-assured food, ensure the health and welfare of animals, provide leisure activities, enrich the rural and urban environment and protect our natural heritage. More than 1.1 million people work in the sector, reinforced by an estimated 500,000 volunteers. They work across 230,000 businesses, or nearly one in ten UK businesses.
