Edexcel is currently working with UCAS to map the new BTEC Level 3 National QCF qualifications to the UCAS Tariff. UCAS has stated that it "views them to be updated versions of the existing NQF versions of the (Level 3) BTEC Nationals" and this implies that the Tariff points are unlikely to change. The tariff values will be confirmed before the end of September 2010.
The new BTEC Level 3 Nationals have two new features:
- the Level 3 Certificate equivalent to one AS Level
- the Distinction* (D*) grade.
In respect of the new QCF Certificate size qualification, this is likely to be allocated Tariff points in proportion to the larger qualifications and further discussions are planned with UCAS subject specialists to decide on the appropriate tariff for the new D* grade. Edexcel has proposed that the D* has an equivalence with the GCE A* grade.
