The qualifications have been designed to reflect the skills, knowledge and understanding that are required for working in today’s Public Services sector. Today’s workforce has to be able to solve problems, meet deadlines, work in a team, and keep fit, all of which are reflected in the units on offer to the learner.

Visits to a variety of centres such as police stations, fire stations and job centres should be an integral part of the course. Having a variety of guest speakers to the centre is also very important, especially if visits are not feasible. A number of the units link in with other opportunities for learners such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

These qualifications enable centres to deliver and integrate Functional Skills into a number of the units. There are also opportunities to cover aspects of Every Learner Matters, in particular ‘enjoy and achieve', and ‘make a positive contribution’.
