Why focus on employability?
The UK is currently experiencing the highest levels of unemployment in a generation. We’re committed to helping tackle this problem, so in September this year we’re launching an exciting new employability solution designed to give you the tools you need to design and deliver programmes that are truly effective in preparing learners for work.
A personalised approach to employability
This product will, for the first time, provide a completely personalised pathway for learners of all ages. Instead of registering learners for a qualification, you'll register them for a number of credits. This gives you the freedom and flexibility to design programmes around the knowledge, skills and attitudes each individual needs to secure lasting employment.

Our five components of employability
Employability is about having and applying a set of knowledge and skills. We’ve identified the five components that really make someone employable, and it’s around these that we’re building this exciting new product:
English, maths and ICT
industry knowledge
skills to secure employment, such as CV writing and interview skills
work experience
personal attributes and behaviours, such as self-efficacy, team working and self-confidence. |
Behind each component will sit a range of QCF units of learning at Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2. You’ll have the flexibility to combine different units of learning to create a personalised framework for each learner.
Phase 1 will also include a delivery guide for practitioners which will include suggested curriculum models and learner pathways to help you navigate your way through the learning units and resources available.
When will it be available?
Our employability solution will be released in phases, with a flexible framework of learning units coming first, followed by an accompanying diagnostic tool and teaching and learning support materials.
