Adult Literacy and Adult Numeracy

16 August 2011

It’s still possible to offer ALAN for the 2011-12 academic year

Edexcel’s Adult Literacy and Numeracy (ALAN) qualifications will continue for 2011-12. This means you can continue to offer ALAN as well as functional skills, and you can still gain attainment points for ALAN qualifications.

ALAN tests still available this year
Don’t forget, it’s still possible to sit our onscreen and on-demand ALAN tests this year, even on or after results day, to help your learners progress on to further education.

Why offer ALAN?
Edexcel’s ALAN tests are available on demand and onscreen. They are available at Level 1 and 2 in Literacy and Numeracy, and produce instant onscreen results.

Each ALAN qualification is worth the equivalent of half a GCSE and will therefore contribute to attainment points for your centre. The ALAN qualifications offer better progression opportunities for your learners and provide them with the necessary skills in literacy and numeracy required for further education and employment.

Remember, the teaching and learning of ALAN can help learners prepare for assessment in the new English and maths GCSEs.
