BTEC Nationals from 2007 | Children's Care, Learning and Development

5 July 2011

BTEC Results Day and the National BTEC Awards
On 7 July 2011, Pearson is hosting the National BTEC Awards and also publishing BTEC results data. Join us in creating more transparency around vocational qualifications and celebrating the achievements of BTEC learners everywhere!

BTEC Results Day

What information we will be publishing
We're publishing achievement data relating to Level 2 and Level 3 BTEC students in schools and colleges from 1 June 2010 to 31 May 2011.

This will give an overall picture of achievement, looking at the number of students taking BTECS and how well they are doing including a gender breakdown, information on how many students study in schools or colleges, and an indication of the completion rate for BTECs.

Please note that we are not providing information on individual students or centres.

Why we think sharing this information matters
The government has called for greater transparency around vocational qualifications.  We're confident that BTECs are high quality and robust qualifications and believe that it is important to provide as much evidence as possible, in as open a way as possible.

We're publishing national level data because we believe in high quality vocational education, and want to increase the amount of information available to students, schools, colleges, parents and all who have an interest in education in this country.

There will be no change at all to how your students are entered for or awarded their BTEC results and certificates.

How you can keep up to date on 7 July
This information will be published on our website at www.btec.co.uk/btecresultsday on the morning of 7 July and will be publicly available. Please note that this URL will not be live until the results are published at 9am on 7 July.

National BTEC Awards

What information we will be publishing
Earlier this year, we contacted every BTEC school and college and asked them to nominate an outstanding BTEC learner or teacher.

The winners were chosen by a judging panel comprising Rod Bristow, President Pearson UK; Tom Lee, Director of Vocational Product Management, Pearson; Gerard Kelly, Editor of the Times Educational Supplement; Robert Halfon, MP for Harlow and a big advocate of great education for all; Despina Panayi, a former UK Teaching Awards winner; and Nick Chambers, Director of the Education Employers Taskforce.

On 7 July 2011, the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London, and published on the Edexcel website at www.btec.co.uk/nationalbtecawards.

Why we think sharing this information matters
We've decided to host a national awards ceremony to recognise the highest achieving BTEC students, teachers, schools and colleges. We hear so many stories each year from teachers and tutors detailing the truly outstanding performance of their students and colleagues, and their school or college. This year, we've decided to recognise these outstanding individuals and centres through the first ever National BTEC Awards: recognising vocational excellence.

How you can keep up to date on the day
We will be publishing details of the award winners, along with videos of the four overall winners, at www.btec.co.uk/nationalbtecawards, on the afternoon of 7 July.

You can also follow @btecawards on Twitter for regular updates on the awards ceremony.

Check back after the ceremony to see photos and quotes from the winners.
