Edexcel was formed in 1996 by the merger of the Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC), the country’s leading provider of vocational qualifications, and the University of London Examination and Assessment Council (ULEAC), one of the major exam boards for GCSE and A levels.
In 2010, Edexcel marked and delivered more than 3.4 million tests in six weeks for the National Curriculum Tests at Key Stage 2. We also marked more than 5.4 million academic and vocational scripts in the 2009/2010 academic year, with 90% marked onscreen.
Since the merger, the business has grown considerably and undergone numerous transitions and is now a fully owned subsidiary of Pearson.
